Elizabeth Semmelhack, Senior Curator, Bata Shoe Museum
Elizabeth Semmelhack has been the Senior Curator of the Bata Shoe Museum since 2000. Semmelhack received her MA in Western Art History Theory and did her doctorate work in Japanese Art History. Since coming to the Bata Shoe Museum her work has focused on the construction of gender in relation to dress with a particular focus on the history of elevating footwear.
As Senior Curator, Semmelhack has curated numerous exhibitions as well as written a number of books, essays and articles. She has been the shoe consultant to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, is frequent lecturer and has been widely quoted in media such as The New York Times, Wall St. Journal and the Washington Post.
