Hackdays are awesome gatherings of hackers/developers who work
either in a team or alone to build applications with publicably
available APIs. We started with HackTO
in Toronto and had such a great time that we are rolling out HackDays
across Canada. Our first destination outside of Toronto was Montreal. hackMTL was a blast and the winners are enjoying their awesome prizes! We just wrapped up HackOTT in Ottawa and HackWaterloo in Waterloo and are now headed to both Guelph and Vancouver!
HackVancouver will be held in Vancouver on Saturday August 20, 2011 from 9 AM to 6 PM.
So please join us for
the launch of HackVan in Vancouver. HackVancouver is going to be an
awesome gathering of the very best of Vancouver's technology hackers and
developers, coming together for one day of hacking - and you probably
don't want to miss this hacking event! Space is limited as always. All our hacking events sell out so if you are interested in attending: please sign up now to guarantee your spot (and make everyone's life easier!).
For HackMTL and HackOTT, we rounded up various public APIs from local tech startups and have made them available to local developers. We will be doing the same for HackVan. Each API will be supported by someone totally familiar with the API (so you won't be wasting time trying to find answers to your questions) and we will provide a great hacking environment with caffeeine, pizza, snacks and prizes (and glory)! Working in teams or solo--and with expert guidance from our API sponsors--developers compete to create the coolest application using one or more of the available APIs. And just to make things interesting, this is all done in a few hours!
Developers: for the low
price of $10 you can spend a day with expert guidance, make new friends
and connections, compete for awesome prizes, and build tools with some
of the coolest platforms around.
If you're with a technology company that you think ought to be involved, or if you have any questions, drop us an email would love to hear from you.
BTW this is an all-day event; breakfast, lunch and snacks provided! Our schedule will look something like this:
- 9:00 – Breakfast and introductions
- 9:30 – API presentation: learn about the APIs available
- 10:15 – Open Planning: come up with hacking idea and build a team
- 10:30 – Hacking setup and start
- Noon – Lunch
- 1:00 – Hacking
- 5:00 – Application presentation – 5 minutes for each presenter!
- 6:00 – Judging and prizes
- 6:30 – Off to nearby pub for celebrations!
HackVAN is made possible by our awesome sponsors: Context.IO, Freshbooks, Grow 2011, TinEye, YellowPages.
If you are interested in sponsoring HackVAN, drop us an email would love to hear from you.
If you are press and would like to attend HackVAN either during the hacking or presentation part of the event, drop us an email and we will make sure you get access to the event.
