An event where Ottawa citizens share ideas, network, and create applications using publicly accessible government data -- or so called "open data". These applications, often referred to as "apps", are then made available from your web browser or mobile phone, and make open data apart of everyday life in the city. For example, an app can tell you when your next bus is coming (http://octranspo.net), or tell you which recycling box has to go out and when (http://ottawatrash.ca).
Have an idea for an app, or you want to contribute to a project, or you simply want to see what's being made, then you should definitely check the Hackfest out. No matter your skillset or interests, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to learn and help the Ottawa community grow.
At the event, you can expect to be able to:
What to Bring:
Gadgets! Bring you laptops, mobile phones, phasers set to stun, etc… We’re trying to make this event very hands on, so feel free to bring all your wacky geektronics so that you can participate in all the fun. Don't worry if you don’t bring anything since there will still be tons of stuff to do. Rock on!
